HOPKINSVILLE – Whitney H. Westerfield, an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Christian County, today filed with the Kentucky Secretary of State to run for State Senate in the 3rd District, which includes Christian, Caldwell, Crittenden and Union Counties. The seat is currently held by longtime politician Joey Pendleton.
Westerfield is a lifelong resident of Christian County. He has served as a felony prosecutor for more than five years while maintaining a part-time private practice in Hopkinsville.
“The citizens of the 3rd District are ready for a new conservative voice in Frankfort,” Westerfield said. “They are ready for someone who isn’t afraid to stare down the establishment, fight the status quo and stand up for what is right.”
Westerfield’s priorities: 1) limit the size of government and repeal unneeded regulations to create a business-friendly, pro-growth economy, 2) stop the expansion of gambling, and 3) protect the lives of unborn children. Westerfield is also dedicated to helping farmers become more competitive in the marketplace and fighting penal code changes that could make our communities less safe.
Born and raised in Christian County, Westerfield and his five brothers share ownership in a small row-crop farm. Westerfield serves on several non-profit boards and is active in the community.
Westerfield received a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and a juris doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law. He is married to Amanda Westerfield, an elementary school teacher at Heritage Christian Academy. They reside together in Hopkinsville.
